Krav Maga Instructor Certification Process, How Long Does it take?

I don't like salespeople, or politicians, that give evasive answers. Give me the truth straight. I recently called up a language school. How much does your course cost? "Well, that depends, there are so many variables, you will have to come down and meet with one of our advisors at our office." 

Oh really!

Yes, I know the routine, the sales routine. You waste an entire morning, find parking, wait for your turn, only to be given a song and dance routine in their fancy office with their "free" coffee. Most people feel pressured and outnumbered and then end up purchasing what they don't need and don't want at a price that they cannot really afford. Sales! 

No thanks buster, not for me.

Give me a straight answer or I am walking out of here.

Yet, when write to me, almost every day, and ask, "How long does it take to earn an Apprentice Instructor status in IKI Krav Maga?

"I tell them very honestly that I cannot give them a straight definite answer, there are many variables.  So you know what, I will give it to you straight right now, I will be very clear, and perhaps save myself some time later so that the next person who asks this question will get his "form answer" (Although I am always willing to answer individual questions).

It Depends: 

Some people get certified more quickly.

Why?

1. They have a great deal of martial arts experience, i.e. relevant experience.

2. They see and understand the superiority of our techniques and training methods and immerse themselves in learning these techniques.   

3. They do their homework; they are IKI on-line members for some time, watched the videos and trained in those techniques many times. They purchase the Vimeos or DVDs. When I arrive they are ready to just polish what they have learned and improve a little. 

4. It depends on how much time and effort you put into it.

5. Some people are more coordinated, they simply pick things up faster. 

6. Make a long term commitment to IKI. 

On the other hand there are people who have been with IKI for years and not yet certified instructors. why?

1.They do not watch the daily videos, or train with them. 

2. They do not host seminar or attend seminars, or make an effort to train with Moshe Katz in person.

3. They do not send in video clips of themselves for testing or evaluations.

4. They do not bother to read the blogs that Moshe Katz writes (in which case this point is pointless as they are not reading this). 

One of the points I learned while I was training for rank was as follows: You must show your instructor that you are hungry. You must show that reaching that next level is the most important thing in the world for you. You must really want it.

A members ho does not renew his membership on time, does not make an effort to train with the Head Instructor, does not show some true desire, well, that is a person who is not in a genuine hurry to improve his/her skill level. Likewise I am in no hurry to promote him or her. So when they write to me and says, "Hey, I have been a member for a long time, when is my next promotion?" I have to explain politely that they are not even on the correct path to promotion.

So, in summary, Apprentice Instructor status with Israeli Krav International must be earned. For some people it is difficult to change years of training in another style, so it will take a bit longer, no harm in that. Some people just adapt to our style more naturally. Some people have full-time jobs and families and have little time or opportunity to train. Naturally it will take them longer.

Now I hope you can understand that when I say, "it depends", it really does. I am not trying to be evasive. 

It depends on:

Your previous training. 

Your natural talents.

Your level of commitment.

Now let's look at the flip side of the coin. Let's say I figured it is good for "business" to give an exact time, say one year. I had a business contact years ago, a woman in New York, she signed up to learn Kung Fu with a certain school in New York. She paid in advance and was told she would have a black belt in one year.

Now if she had done her homework she would have known that there are no belts in Kung Fu. Bruce Lee himself did not have a black belt, neither did his teacher, or his teacher before him. So first, do your homework.

Ok, so she attends classes for a full year and then is awarded her Kung Fu black belt, as promised. But she is honest and says, "I know that I cannot really defend myself, how can I accept this rank?

I feel the guaranteed black belt, or instructor status, in exchange for money, while it may be good for business, is not the approach that I like, I do not see it as honest.

In summary; how long will it take you to earn a rank? There are lots of factors, but it is up to you.

Yo no me gustan los vendedores, o los políticos, que dan respuestas evasivas. Dame la verdad recta. Hace poco me llamó una escuela de idiomas. ¿Cuál es el costo del curso? "Bueno, eso depende, hay tantas variables, se tienen que bajar y reunirse con uno de nuestros asesores".

Ah, sí!

Sí, sé que el rotina, el routina de ventas. Se pierde toda una mañana, encontrar aparcamiento, espera tu turno, sólo para darse una canción y un baile en su oficina de lujo con su "libre" de café y luego terminan comprando lo que usted realmente no necesita a un precio que realmente no puede permitirse. "Buster no gracias, no para mí. Dame una respuesta directa o yo estoy caminando.

3. Después de algunas dudas iniciales todos vieron la superioridad de nuestras técnicas y métodos y se sumerge en el cambio de sus técnicas.

4. Ellos hicieron su trabajo a domicilio, ya habían sido miembros IKI durante casi un año, había visto los videos juntos y capacitados en las técnicas muchas veces. Cuando llegué ya estaban listos para pulir justo lo que han aprendido y mejorar. 5. Capacitamos a días de 9 am a 9 pm.

3. Ellos no se molestan en leer los blogs o verdaderamente estudio de los clips.

Ahora veamos la otra cara de la moneda. Digamos que me di cuenta que es bueno para el "negocio" para dar una hora exacta, por ejemplo un año.
