Girls, young women, training in IKI Krav Maga self defense.
Life is unpredictable. When we set out for a journey we stop and think, what will we need? What kind of situations might come up? What tools, what kind of clothing, should I prepare for the trip? Will I need cash, or credit cards? Does this destination accept my credit card or provide for an exchange of currency. Many times along the years I have found people stranded in foreign countries without the necessary documents or financial tools. One needs to think ahead.
There have been times people came to train with me and stated right off the bat, I don't want to include gun defenses, that is not relevant where I live. Many have said they have no need for rifle training. Or sometimes after the training I would hear such criticism, we only want knife attacks, not knife threats, and so forth and so on.
Now while everyone has a right to choose what they want to learn and what they do not want to learn, it is a teacher's job to try and educate, enlighten. I do understand that one might say, in my neighborhood the main concern is being hit, punched. Or alternatively, in my neighborhood knife attacks are the issue. That is valid. And yet, one should not ignore other sorts of attacks simply because they are not common or have not happened yet.
Who is wise? He would sees the future.
I recently studied a tragic case where a young woman was abducted. At first she was grabbed, she fought back and wrestled with one guy on the ground. Then another jumped in to help the assailant and put her in a chokehold. Later on she was dragged to a car, and finally she was shot, execution style. All this by a group of teenagers. Truly tragic. The girls' name was Sidnee I believe.
Poor thing never expected this, and it came from people she knew, including a guy she dated at one time. We never know what to expect. We can say, in my neighborhood the issue is as follows...etc, but, the truth is you never know, and you should never ignore any aspect of training. There are no such things as Techniques we do not need. We need every type of technique; standing, sitting, on the ground, in a car, in a bar, in the air, on a plane, on a train, on a bus with a guy named gus, in an elevator with an alligator. We need to train and understand all aspects of violence, body, mind and soul.
We never know what might come our way. Luck favors the prepared.
