Sometimes we wonder, is anyone listening? Is anyone taking our words to heart?
and then we find out.
As my dear father pointed out to me; for every one hundred people who enjoyed an article or a book, only 1 will contact the author to tell them. In fact, the percentage is probably far lower. Feedback is never guaranteed, no matter how well a job you do, you will be left wondering.
With our IKI self-defense Krav Maga techniques I will never know how many lives have been saved, but I do know that many do tell me about their experiences. Before offering a few examples, I will comment on some points most of the stories share: the techniques were often not performed "Perfectly"(black belt level). The practitioners occasionally adapted or slightly modifed the IKI techniques based on the particular circumstances they faced. The techniques worked under the most stressful situations, often surprising the practitioners.
There were countless stories, here are just a few. To protect the privacy of the individuals involved I will not divulge their names or some of the details that might compromise their privacy, or safety. But I can assure you that all these cases are real.
Most recently, in Mexico. A student who attended a few seminars, i.e., not a regular IKI student, not an instructor, was forced out of his car due to a roadblock involving a cartel. He hid behind the tire of his car but eventually was spotted by a cartel member holding a rifle. He was told to get out and stand up. He got up, raised his hands and faced a loaded rifle. He told me that at this moment suddenly my name came to his mind, Moshe Katz, and he knew that his life was on the line, and it was now or never. Not only that, but he said he remembered my exact words, and my message, "When that moment comes and you understand that it is do or die, you must give it your all, everything, 110%. You must put your entire mind and body and your entire existence into this one more, your life depends on this first step." He did the move exactly as I had taught it and suddenly the rifle was in his hands. At this point he felt very empowered and moved forward, headbutting the cartel member in the head. The gunman fell backwards, banged his head against a car and collapsed, knocked out. Our student grabbed the gun, got into his car and drove off, totally unharmed.
This was the first time I had heard of someone using our rifle defense. He told me, "I am sitting here today because of you". He treated me to coffee.
In Puerto Rico, a young woman who had attended our Five Day training and our Tour and Train, met a guy. He was a Krav Maga instructor with another system. He dropped a drug in her drink and tried to rape her. He was a master instructor, she beat him and he did not get his way. She emerged unscathed.
In Florida, a young policewoman, petite, attended one seminar. Later that week she received a call about domestic violence. She arrived alone and was waiting for backup, but the angry man attacked her. She defended herself and dropped in to the ground. By the time the backup arrived he was hand cuffed.
In South Africa, a very generous man had been donating to what sounded like a worthy charity. When he showed up one day to see the facility in person, and make another generous donation, he realized the truth; he had been conned all along, no such facility existed. Two of conmen approached him, one pointed a gun at his head, another a knife to his side. He used the first IKI gun disarm that we taught him on Tour and Train. He disarmed and destroyed the assailants.
In Morelia, Mexico, one of our members was held up, knife to his back. He used the technique I taught him at a seminar and escaped without harm. The same thing happened another time, again he was successful. Before joining IKI he was with another Krav Maga system. He left after he was unable to defend himself in a real-life confrontation.
In Ohio, USA, one of our members, a police officer, used the IKI Universal Block three times against armed and unarmed assailants. In all cases he defended himself and knocked out the assailants.
I could go on and on. Violence and crime are a reality, they will not go away anytime soon. I am glad we are at least making a small difference in the lives of those who choose to train with us.
This is not a sport, and we do not treat it as such. This is not boxing, this is not MMA, this is not wrestling. This is only Krav Maga, only pure self-defense. Know the difference.
