Our IKI Krav Maga club in Norway operates in a power lifting gym, and in a power lifting atmosphere. How so?
We believe in real Krav Maga, and so do the good folks at Trimlåven Treningssenter.
This is a barn that was converted into a gym and fitness center. In fact låve means barn in Norwegian. The owner, a humble hard working man named Ingar, is a farmer and builder by profession. With his own hands he and his friends converted the barn into a fitness gym.
Nearby there are two major fitness centers which boast state of the art facilities and equipment and memberships that hover around 3,000. Trimlåven is a smaller place but unique and special. It draws a different kind of crowd.
The members are a reflection of the owner, true, pure and humble, they keep it real. Unlike most commercial gyms you do not see people walking around half naked, staring at themselves in the mirror and kissing their biceps. If Ingar sees anyone behaving in this arrogant manner, as Morten said, "he kicks them right out the door". No place here for anything but hard serious and humble work.
The goal with power lifting, as Morten explained to me, is different from body building. Power lifting is about real strength while body building is about looking really good without your clothes on. I have seen guys and girls here lifting amazing amounts of weight and yet they are humble and ...fully clothed.
It is about strength, not looks, what is on the inside, not the outside, What you really can do, rather than what others see. Sounds very much like our Krav Maga.
The place is not fancy; it is simple, old fashioned and hard core and offers the best equipment and the best training, just like our Krav Maga, it is a perfect match.
