Perfect System Krav Maga

We do not believe in perfection in this world. The world, by its nature, is imperfect, and we human beings are in a constant process of growth or attempting to grow. We see our lives as an endless challenge of growth, mistakes, and lessons. Life is a journey, a search, an on-going process. And so it is with our style of self-defense, IKI Krav Maga.

No human being who has ever lived is perfect. My dear father, may he rest in peace, would tell me that the Bible, the Torah, is filled with less than perfect human beings, Abraham, Moses, King David, all great man, all flawed men. Man is not perfect. The Bible is a study in imperfection, for if the Bible consisted of perfect human beings, so called "Saints", we would have nothing to learn from them, for we are imperfect. The Bible deals with family strife, with marital discord, with the challenges of raising children, disappointment and frustration, and thus it is relevant to our lives. Our lives are a series of challenges, obstacles, failures and growth. And that is how we view our system of self-defense. IKI Krav Maga.

In our flyers, our posts, you will not see models, you will not see perfect abs or photo-shoped images, you will see honesty, imperfect human beings. "Just a slob like one of us".

Reality self-defense is one of most misused, misunderstood and abused terms in martial arts today. The term "Reality martial arts" is used to convey a feeling of - we are the real deal, we are not dancing or faking it, we are going full-force and dealing with very violent situations. But in fact, for the most part, these systems are far from reality, I know for I was a part of that for a long time. They are more "weekend warrior" or "Fantasy Warrior" martial arts. The term Reality is what I described earlier, the Biblical model; Reality means imperfection. We are imperfect, or as Antonio Salieri said, "We are all mediocre".

Yes, we are mediocre, we are average, we are normal human beings, we are imperfect. As some of you may know I survived a bad car crash a few months ago. I am still dealing with the aftermath of this accident, physical, legal, medical etc. Since then I completed a series of Krav Maga seminars all across the USA, Mexico and Europe, I am not slowing down. At home, when friends and neighbors see my limping at times to the synagogue, they ask me, "Can you still teach Krav Maga?" and yes, of course, I am still going strong. And then it occurred to me. The reason I am able to teach is because, as I always say, our style is "The perfect style for imperfect people".

I do not feel ready to compete in full-contact No Holds Barred fighting, I do feel ready to do back spinning jump kicks, and I certainly cannot jump rope or even walk up the hill but I can do IKI Krav Maga, because that is the point, it is designed for all of us, all of us average people, of all us aging people, all of us imperfect people. We are the perfect style for imperfect people.

Abraham Lincoln was once called "homely" by his then future wife. Homely meaning not physically attractive. But good old wise Abe said, "The Lord loves homely people, that is why he created so many of them."

Yes, God loves imperfect people, and that is how he created us. We may never achieve the perfect "look" we seek, we may never achieve the perfect body, we may never achieve the perfect state of mind, but that is OK, we can thrive and survive in a world of imperfection and chaos. We can survive in a world of unknowns. We can survive while being imperfect.

So you have not seen the last of me yet, Next month I will be teaching in Germany and Austria, And then the Africa tour, and then the USA, then Italy and back to Germany. If you are interested in a seminar, let me know, I am still going strong. I may be imperfect, but I am still a force to contend with. And more importantly, I can teach you how to defend yourself, in your current state of imperfection.

We believe it is perfectly OK to be imperfect. We thrive in chaos and the unknown. We move forward.
