Optimism is not a Strategy

I just returned from the bank. Great seeing old friends and catching up. Sadly, the bank is paying less interest these days, and investments are down. As a former business major I pursue a strategy of diversification of assets, so hopefully things will be OK. In Israel, things are bleak these days, as most of the world wants nothing to do with us. I recently received a letter from an Israeli company encouraging its customers to diversify and invest abroad, not only in Israel. The letter was titled "Optimism is Not a Strategy" .
They pointed out the Israeli adage, Yiheeye Beseder, it will be alright, i.e. the eternal Israeli optimism, yet said - in this case we should not be so optimistic, we need to be real.
Of course, I immediately saw the Krav Maga application.
Optimism, what does that really mean? In real life we have to make an effort, we have to take matters into our own hands, after that, well, I guess hopeful thinking can make one feel better. But Optimism is not a strategy in life.
Many people are optimistic, but this is not any sort of guarantee as my investment firm pointed out. You need to be practical, you need to train. Violence is all around us. No one is safe, neither you nor your property, and yet people are ...Optimistic.
They are optimistic that they will be OK.
Well, perhaps I should forward them the letter from my investment advisors, this is not a strategy. So what is a strategy.
Protect your own - make sure you have solid defense, an alarm system, barbed wires, solid locks, whatever it takes.
Own a handgun - and learn how to use it properly.
Train in self defense - you, yourself, your body, are the first line of defense, and the last line of defense when all is fails. So get started, or, just remain Optimistic and hope everything works out for the best. (and don't forget life insurance for your family)
