Lessons Not Learned

I am in Mexico teaching Krav Maga seminars, to civilians, to police, to counter terror forces. The lesson last night was a bit more intense than usual for although I am currently far from home, I am following the news closely and my heart is with my people. Today the next stage of the so-called Hostage Deal is meant to take place, a disgraceful surrender to evil forces which I am opposed to. I prefer the American approach during World War Two, complete and total destruction of the enemy and Unconditional Surrender. The current agreements are immoral and dangerous.
Be that as it may, today we are meant to receive bodies, of old and young, and of children and babies. When this actually takes place, we will know for sure. Until now there have been rumors, but this seems like fairly solid information.
What we do know is that many children were murdered on October 7, 2023, in the most brutal and inhumane way, along with women, men and the elderly. No one was spared.
The pages of Israeli social media, and Jews and supporters from around the world are filled with grief. I see comments such as so sad, the mind cannot grasp this, or May God avenge their blood, or the heart refuses to believe, or the mind cannot accept.
and it makes me wonder. I am transported back more than 45 years; I am a young man of 17 listening to a rabbi speak. The rabbi spoke of things that happened and he spoke of things to come. He spoke of our past and he spoke of our future, and the options we have. He spoke of our dark days in Europe and how Nazis would fling Jewish children into the air and bayonet them, he spoke of women raped and mutilated. And the Jewish university banned him, for he "provoked people". He layed out our future before us, unless we took action, unless we learned the lessons of the past.
We did not.
Time and time again the Arabs committed unspeakable atrocities against the people of Israel, time and time again they killed children in their homes, in the very beds. But the Israeli government went soft on them, and provided them with excuses, for the leaders of our people did not want to "provoke" the Arabs or the world that supports them. And now people are shocked, I am not. And now people are "the mind and the heart cannot absorb what has happened", and I wonder, why? Did you miss the history class? Did you fall asleep during the lecture? Was the lesson too boring for you to follow and pay attention?
I was listening, and this has made all the difference.
Rabbi Kahane said many years ago, I am shocked at Jews who are constantly shocked. By this point we should not be shocked, by this point we should learn our lesson. By this point we should know what to do to prevent such things from ever happening again.
Have Japan or Germany caused any trouble since World War Two? The answer is no, they have become productive partners towards peace. Imperial Japan and Emperor Hirohito, the "god", are gone, The Third Riech, Hitler and the Nazi party are gone. Hamas and Hezbollah must join this distinguished group of "Past Terror". It is time to put them in the trash Bin of history.
History is teaching us a lesson, it is time we finally pass the course.
Following the massacre of October 7, 2023, many Israelis woke up, some have subsequently relapsed and fallen asleep again, fallen to Never Never Land where Princesses and Unicorns are real. Some of them have now woken up again when they realized that our enemy has murdered mothers with their children, and elderly peace activists who devoted their lives never to helping the "unfortunate" Gazans.
Allow me to quote one of the recently enlightened Israelis, as he posted on Social Media. His name is Yuval. He writes, "Look carefully and see what our enemies have written in the burial caskets in which they returned the bodies of our hostages, 'We will never stop fighting until the last inch of "palestine" (sic) is returned to us. And at this moment I want to confess that I was simply a naive fool, a sucker who believed in delusions of peace. I was the result of a faulty educational system that taught us peace instead of war. I believed in Hope when I should have trained for Victory and defeat of the enemy. I was part of the camp that thought there was a parallel camp on the other side at a time when the truth was the only relevant camp was a military camp.
It was more comfortable for me to think of losing with Love instead of getting angry and win with Hate. And so today I hate the enemy with every inch of my heart."
Thus the words of a man who has awoken. Better late than never.
For all of us all over the world I say the following, what a world it can be. There is love and music, and flowers and sunshine, but we must not be delusional, we must not wait for our loved ones to be brutally murdered and returned to us in a box, we must train, NOW.
What can possibly be more important?
