Living in a Jungle

In Israel we are all still trying to figure out what the heck happened on Black Sabbath, October 7, 2023. One expert, an Arab who converted to Judaism and offered his perspective, said, "We forgot that we are living in a jungle". He said, "We are living in a jungle, a desert jungle, the rules here are ...incomparable to anyplace else in the world." (Timor David Eklin) תימור דוד עקלין
Timor, formally Tamaar, quotes the famous Arab historian and philosopher Ibn Khaldun أبو زيد عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن خلدون الحضرمي, who says, "The Arab nation is a wild and aggressive nation." Regarding the tragic brutal events of October 7 he said, "No, I was not surprised, not at all, it could have been even more brutal. My only surprise was our slow reaction time." (Interview, Hidabrut (Dialogue) November 14, 2023)
He says the problem with most people is not a lack of intelligence but a lack of courage to see what is truly in front of them. Most people insult others by attributing to them the traits which they themselves have. In our case it is good honest peace-loving people insisting that the enemy shares the same values, when in fact the enemy openly states that they do not share this approach to life. Hitler openly spelled out his plans in Mein Kampf, written long before the Holocaust, yet people stil somehow did not see it coming. the problem is us, not the enemy. We prefer to paint the enemy in our own image rather than respect him and see him as he is. This is the core of the problem.
When it comes to self defense, Krav Maga, most people will not train. They will not show up for classes, they will not invest their time, effort, or money. Why? Because they prefer to paint the world Rosy Red. They prefer to see that world as better than it is. The late Golda Mier said about Henry Kissinger, "He is a wonderful gentlman, his only problem is he thinks the rest of the world is made of equally wondeful gentlemen."
News flash, it is not. The world we live is not made up of perfect gentlemen and ladies. We live in a jungle and the sooner we recognize this, the better our chances of survival.
No Israelis imagined the scenes of Israeli soldiers walking into Gaza where their hands tied behind their backs in total humiliation. Certainly no one ever imagined a scene where their grandmothers and grandfathers, handicapped people in wheelchairs, babies in strollers, would be taken away in chains. This humiliation has now been avenged. The Hamas headquarters is the now living quarters of the Golani brigade. One Israeli soldier was picture having Turkish Arabic coffee while relaxing, the caption read, you came to my home, now I am in your home.
But the lesson here is universal. Timor warns us, the Israeli intelligence had all the information, but they wanted to think they were in the West, they refused to see.
We need to listen to this very carefully, each one of us in our own country, in our circumstances, don't make this mistake. Understand where you live, understand the dangers, do not become complacent. Respect your enemy and understand his evil intentions. We have been warned.
