Do You Know

Do you know what people think of you? That waitress who puts up with your flirtations because you are a big spender, do you know what she really thinks of you when she smiles at you? The bank employee who smiles at you because you just deposited a million dollars, but you are rude and condescending, do you know what she thinks of you?
I know, because I am a realist, and I talk to the people. I have stood in their place; I have walked a mile in their shoes.
Do you know what a criminal thinks of you? I heard of a case of a woman shooting a man in the head and then sitting down next to him and smoking a cigarette. Do you know how little regard some people have for your life? Do you know that not everyone was raised like you, nice and thoughtful?
Do you know what an online scammer thinks of you, and how they feel they are entitled to your hard-earned money? Do you know that people can steal everything you have, all that you toiled for, leave you down and out, and not even stop and think about it for a minute? Do you know that there are people who will shoot a person just to watch them die, just to feel the thrill of pulling the trigger and watching someone die?
You don't, most of us do not. And how do I know this? Because all over the world self-defense classes are seen as nothing more than a hobby. Hardly anyone feels the need to devote time, energy and money, yes money, to this training. Even police officers and security guards do not want to devote more than the bare minimum required by their jobs for this training.
Do you know? Do you know pain? The problem is we don't want to know, we want to ignore all the warning signs, we just don't want to know. The bad guys are out there, your property, your life, your family, mean less than nothing to them, they are missing that gene called "I give a damn", but you are living in lala land, and that makes me sad. Evil sleeps besides us, evil walks behind us, evil and we don't want to know.
