Destination

I was reading a book and as I was about to take a break, I noticed my bookmark. It was an old airline ticket. I save these until after the flight, just in case I need them, and this has happened often, and then I "recycle" them, often using them as bookmarks.

I have seen hundreds of these throughout my life, but suddenly I noticed the word, Destination - Tel Aviv. And it occurred to me, what a great destination. I am not a great fan of Tel Aviv, so in my mind I substituted that with "Jerusalem", and I thought, Destination - Jerusalem. What an incredible goal, what an incredible destination. Destination - Jerusalem!!

One must have a goal if we one wants to achieve something in life. You can't just flow with the wind. One must have a defined destination. And yes, often the journey itself is a destination, and often the journey is the key, and from the journey we grow, but still, one needs a destination in life.

What do you want out of life? is your destination Jerusalem? Do you wish to achieve a certain spiritual height?

Back in the 1980's I had several goals, several destinations; I wanted to earn my black belt in martial arts, I wanted to be graduated from Business school with a master's degree, and I wanted to return to Israel and own my own home. I focused on those goals, and yes also on the journey, but the Destinations were always in front of me.

There are no magic solutions to the challenges of life, and I certainly do not claim to have all the answers, but perhaps stating your goal out loud, making a note of your desired Destination, will have an effect.

I look at my ticket and it tells me where I started, my origin, and it tells me where I am headed, my Destination, and I believe this is a good start in life, know where you are going and how you expect to get there.

I have seen too many start their martial arts, or Krav Maga training with high hopes, but they lose direction. They lose their way. Perhaps we should have a little "ticket" in front of us with some important information; our Origin, our starting point, and our desired Destination, and, our flight ticket, our means of reaching our destination. Hold your ticket in front of you, as if you were at the airport checking your departure time and departure gate. Know your destination.
